Spousal permits

For spouses of South African citizens or permanent residency holders wishing to move to and stay in South Africa.  With the appropriate endorsement foreign spouses are able to work, study or set up a business.

Life partner permits

Business permits

The permit is designed for foreigners wishing to set and up and run their own business. An investment of R2.5 million rand is required into the business.

Financially independent permits

For foreign applicants with a net wealth of R7.5 million rand upwards.

Retired permits

To allow foreigners to retire in South Africa. The applicant needs to show a monthly income of R20, 000 per person for a temporary permit (4 years) and R20, 000 per couple for permanent residency.

Tourist visa's

For holiday makers from certain countries and also for those wishing to stay in South Africa for up to 3 months. If certain requirements are met, a visitors permit can be extended. This can only be done once.

Work permits

South Africa offers 4 types of work permit:
  • Intra Company Work Permit for employees moving to South Africa but remaining within the same company.
  • Quota Work Permits – for those whose profession is listed on the quota (skill shortage list)
  • Exceptional Skills – for individuals who have extraordinary skills and experience.
  • General Work Permit – For migrants wishing to work and not fitting into other categories. To apply for this type of work permit applicants first need to have a job offer.
