It was rumored in the 1990’s that 4 jumbo jets a week arrived carrying South Africans to the UK alone, how many more arrived in the other favored landing grounds of Australia, New Zealand , Canada and the States we can only guess.
The world was watching and waiting for South Africa to fall from the giddy heights and celebrations that the ending of apartheid and the new democracy brought.
The doom and gloom media reported confidently of the downfall of South Africa and we as South Africans sometimes believed them.
Some 13 years later and a new century is upon us, the media continues to report on all that is bad, and for sure there is some of that – crime being the main one. However the tide is turning………
- Record numbers of South Africans are returning to the beloved country.
- International companies head to SA and bring with them an influx of foreigners
- Depending on which report you read SA is the 4th or 10th most popular place to retire to
- South Africans are the 4th most optimistic in the world about their country
- We have been awarded the 2010 world cup and yes it’s going well!
