A Long Journey Home
In the late 60`s my father and his family took a boat from India to South Africa.
My father had a dream of starting a new life and a new beginning in South Africa.
When they finally arrived in (Cape Good Hope) Cape Town Harbour it was Table Mountain that attracted their attention mostly.
They started going into town trying to find a hotel to stay for the night.
My father got work in a clothing factory as a “Cutter” the future and a little hope appeared for his family of four.
In The 70`s then 23 we decided to march to parliament to rebel against apartheid which was implemented on all Blacks (Malawi, Xhosa, and Colored’s).
There was different movements(PAC, ANC and the freedom front), but all of people shared the that belief and hope of changing South Africa to a multicultural country.
By this time we had a home and were living a good life but as most South Africans we wanted a democracy for all in spite of their color, religion, creed or sex.
In 1994 Mr. Nelson Mandela was elected the president of South Africa and all apartheid laws were banished from South Africa.
South Africa’s struggle for freedom was at its end and what was presented was a beautiful rainbow country with different culture, religions and races.
